Background

The Garmin GPS V was released in 2002. The Garmin GPS V is encased in a rectangular plastic shell.

Identification

A white and yellow "GPS V" logo is printed on the scroll button on the front face. This is where the display and buttons are situated. A cylindrical plate protrudes from the back of the unit, housing the batteries. Use your device's serial number to confirm the model.

Tracks: Automatic track log; 10 saved tracks let you retrace your path in both directions

Trip computer: Resettable odometer, timers, average and maximum speeds

Alarms: Anchor drag, approach and arrival, off course and proximity waypoint

Tables: Built-in celestial tables for best times to fish and hunt, sun and moon rise/set based on date and location

Map datums: More than 100, plus user datum

Position format: Lat/Lon, UTM/UPS, Maidenhead, MGRS, Loran TDs and other grids, including user grid

Plotting/Moving Map Features

Basemap

Built-in routable Americas Autoroute or Atlantic Autoroute basemap with oceans, lakes, rivers, cities, interstates or major motorways, principal and major thoroughfares and political boundaries.

MapSource®

MapSource City Select CD is included with the Americas GPS V® and European City Select® with the Atlantic GPS V which gives you access to routable street-level detail, addresses, listings of restaurants, hotels and more. Compatible with most Garmin® MapSource products including MapSource BlueChart® marine cartography and Fishing Hot Spots™. Accepts up to 19 megabytes of downloaded map detail.
