iPod 5th Generation (Video): My ipod is corrupted

Well i ordered a new battery from ifixit, which should be here soon.... i hope. And i bought a iPod wall charger. Upon connecting the iPod to the wall charger, it started charging and came on. (Before in my last Question i said it wouldnt come on being hooked up to the computer.)

And now it starts up and it has everything on it, before it would erase everything. Which is a surprise since it has been doing that for a while. ( Which also i mentioned before in my first Question) But i noticed that shaking it there was a rattle inside the iPod. Not a real hard rattle, but i rattle non the less.

Also when i connect it to my computer it says its a corrupted and to restore. Any advice?

iPod 5th Generation (Video): Only works when plugged in, display scrolls, listening works fine

30 gig video 5th generation ipod

- The ipod only works when connected to the wall charger (that I bought from Apple), it shuts down as soon as I unplug it, even after attempting to recharge it for several hours.

- When using it (powered using the wall charger that is), I can still listen to music no problem, but the display on the screen scrolls slowly, and wraps around.

Note: I tried to replace the battery, but nothing changed. However it was a cheapo I bought off ebay.

iPod 5th Generation (Video): missed replacing the hd cover

I bought a replacement 60Gb hard drive for my iPod Video locally to avoid shipping and customs costs (Canada). The drive did not come with any foam attached or metal cover over the circuit board. iPod 5th Generation (Video) Hard Drive Replacement I peeled the foam off of the original drive and used it on my replacement drive, but it didn't occur to me that I could also peel the metal cover off of the original drive and use it over the circuit board of the new drive. Instead I placed the foam directly on the circuit board and completed the repair. My iPod now works great, but I'm concerned about that foam being directly in contact with the hard drive's circuit board.

Should I be concerned?

iPod 5th Generation (Video): Lots of problems after replacing battery and hard drive. Help!

So the old 5th gen iPod (30GB) had stopped turning on at all. Previously it would occasionally show an error with a face with x's for eyes. I think it got left in the car too many times and froze and overheated. The center button also did not click

So I got another battery and a used hard drive and replaced them. I also found that the little pad under the center button had shifted over, so I moved it back to center.

After that, the iPod would not turn on with the new hard drive. I tried hooking it up to iTunes 11 on a PC but didn't get anything.

Then I put the old hard drive in there. Same thing, but I kept on trying. Finally I got it to turn on, but the battery was very low and the buttons and selector wheel didn't work. It also would not take a charge from charging cables that I know work.

I took it back apart and put it back together and now the wheel and buttons work, but I noticed it would freeze a lot when trying to play a song and it still wouldn't take a charge.

So I took out the battery and charged it on a universal charger and popped in the blank hard drive. Now it won't turn on again. I have it hooked up to iTunes 11 and nothing. And when I put the old hard drive in it also won't turn on nor is it recognized by iTunes 11.

Is there a step I missed or am I using the wrong iTunes or do you think the board is bad?

Update (08/31/2022)

So I left it plugged in to the computer with iTunes open. The screen finally lit up with that face with x's for eyes and saying to visit www.apple.com/support/ipod. It then goes to a dark screen saying to wait that the battery is very low. This is odd as I had charged the battery to 4.23V (I meant to stop before 4.2V) and I don't feel any heat in the hour or so that it's been plugged in. It seems to be going through a boot loop with the blank hard drive.

So far, iTunes 11 isn't recognizing it.

Update (08/31/2022)

So I put the old hard drive in and it started and even started showing a charge icon. It also had the green battery bar all the way full. But there was no response from iTunes so I tried another USB port. Well, the charging icon went away and didn't come back. I tried moving through the menus a bit and it froze, but the buttons still made clicking noises. Then the screen went black and it wouldn't turn back on. I disconnected and reconnected the battery and it still won't turn back on.

I've got it plugged in for now with another cable with hopes that it will start back up and this time connect to iTunes.

Update (09/01/2022)

Well I left it plugged in and it turned on by itself. Again, I see no signs of charging. From what I can tell, it freezes if it's plugged into a computer and it also freezes and doesn't want to start back up if I force it to restart by holding the center and menu buttons for a while.

As far as how it works, it seems to work fine playing music, the music that's on it. I don't have any way of changing the music on it since if I plug it into a computer it freezes and then the screen goes black after a while.

iPod 5th Generation (Video): iPod does not boot past apple logo. Keeps switching to low battery.

This is an IPOD Video 5th Gen 30GB unit. When connected to a charger, the unit tries to boot and stays on the Apple logo for a long time before switching to the low battery screen. After a while at charging it goes to the apple logo. The display remains without backlight all through these sequences.

- Have replaced with 2 new batteries. Nothing changed. Eventually the batteries stopped working as in could not use them in another ipod.

- While charging, it draws about 0.3A.

- When connected to computer, it is not recognized by itunes as it has not completed the boot cycle.

- Tried setting to disk mode. It will go into disk mode but as soon as it is connected to the computer, it will switch to battery charging mode.

- Unable to get it into diagnostic mode.

- Have checked the LCD and Hard drive in a second working ipod. Both work fine.

- Have checked the connections and confirmed that they are secure.

- Unit does not heat up. Nothing unusual.

- Tried to charge and connect to computer with a variety of cables that I know are good for charging and syncing.

?? Could this be a problem with the charging circuit or with the display circuit or the hard drive circuit?

?? Are there any other possibles causes for these symptoms?

?? Does anyone have a suggestion on a test step I may have missed?

iPod 5th Generation (Video): My iPod (video) won't charge or connect/sync, but turns on. Battery?

So here's the situation.

I have an iPod video 5th generation (late 2006 model). It's worked for years in the past, but then the cord was replaced. It was replaced with a cheap Hong Kong charger.... but the iPod seemed to not be charging after that, so it was left alone for years. Like I said, it was sitting around for years. I got it out recently, and tried to charge it via the Hong Kong and an official apple cord, and here's what happens with either cord:

When plugged in, it displays the "Very Low Battery, Please Wait" screen. After a minute or two, it powers on, but only shows a small red line in the battery symbol (upper right on the screen). No appearance of charging at all. On the computer, it plays the sound when devices are plugged in, but only shows a "USB device not recognized" message. Nothing shows up in iTunes or "My Computer". Also, the "Unknown device" on my computer gives a "code 43" error code.

I'm thinking it's the battery, but I want to be sure before buying a new one. Please give any helpful info you can. Thanks!

Other info:

I use Windows 7, and the iPod is configured to Windows.

I've tried resetting it, and putting it into disk mode, but nothing changes.

I've taken it apart, but nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.

I've tried connecting it to a different computer, but the same sequence occurs.

Update

oldturkey03: I have tried connecting it when it's in disk mode, but it didn't change anything.

Hey guys, thanks for working with me on this. I've decided that I don't really need to fix it, and I've pretty much tried everything already. Thanks so much for your answers, though!
