John Pedrotti , "Although if I set the outter ring with my hand...the washer works fine" sounds like you need a new knob. when you pull of the know, take a look and make sure that all the plasitc tabs are still attached to the timer. It is of course possible that it is your timer shaft, which would require a new timer. Start of with the knob.
