Battery won’t stay charged

I’ve had my Dell Inspiron 3520 for a few years now and never had any problems. However, 3 weeks ago it was left in the bathroom while my son took a shower. Since then, the laptop won’t stay on unless plugged into the wall. This is extremely inconvenient. Do I need to bite the bullet and go buy a new laptop? Or is this one salvageable?
