Probably too late this hint, but nevertheless...
You could do this, it works for years now on my book:
Take of the shields (very easy) with one of these handy Chinese sets or you could use an ordinary instrument screwdriver that fits.
Take a mini-powertool like a Dremel or sort-like,
grind away a thin layer of te steel that's holding the pin, preverable at several sides of its curved surface
Grinding away half of the thickness will reduce its strenght 50%, do tests on the way, the book should stay open, even when it is almost closed!!
I used a vacumecleaner to avoid particals too get in, while grinding.
Works SUPER!!
