marcia.c.mckay this could be totally incidental. I would suggest that you plug it into it's charger and let it charge for a few hours. Just to rule out that the battery is empty.
-If it is charged but does not come on, try a hard reset. Just remember that this will delete or your personal files (music, pictures, etc.)

Press and hold Volume up and Power buttons until the reset interface appears on the screen. Scroll to the desired language using the Volume down button, then press the Power button. Scroll to wipe data/factory reset using the Volume down button.
If that does not work as well, consider replacing the battery. It may no longer hold a charge. This guide [guide|74623] will get you close enough to replace the battery.
