Everybody does it a bit difference. You cannot rule out a bad backlight until you have replaced that. "Not much you can do to these tvs today" is wrong. You can change each and every single board on these which you could have never done on a CRT. This is fixable, so repair what you know is already broken and then re-evaluate and let us know. Keep repairing, not replacing!

Did you have a chance to check all the fuses as well as the T-con board. Post some images of all of your boards with your question. That would allow us to see what you see.
