Both 1st and 2nd Gen Minis are A1051. The only physical way to differentiate between 1st and 2nd Gen minis is whether or not you have the capacity printed on the back of the iPod. If it says 4 GB or 6 GB on the back, you have a 2nd Gen Mini. If it doesn't have a capacity, you have a 1st Gen Mini.
