Did it actually boot from the USB when you inserted it and restarted the laptop and not just from the HDD?
Just verifying that you altered the boot priority and also changed BIOS settings so that it would boot from the USB.
The user manual for your model doesn't show the BIOS settings but usually it is either Legacy USB or CSM has to be enabled for it to boot from a USB.
