Ureka! The solution that worked for me was in a post that I can no longer find. Thank you mystery poster. Thank you! Here is his/her solution in its entirety:
'''“Unplug the battery and plug it back in”'''
To be more specific:
1) Unplug the charger from the computer.
2) Remove the computer back.
3) Unplug the battery connector to the motherboard and then plug it back in.
'''My own experience in a nutshell:'''
After I installed a new battery, I charged the battery for over 12 hours. The first thing I noticed when I attempted to power up the computer with the charger still plugged in was that the orange light on the charger connector was still on, indicating that its was still attempting to charge the battery! Not good!
I reconnected the charger plug and started the computer normally, that is, by using ac power. Interestingly, the battery indicator icon did not appear on the screen as it normally does. Hmmmmm.
I will not clutter this posting with all of the things I tried next except to say that my mystery savior solved my issue by simply recommending to disconnect then reconnect the battery. That’s all!
Good luck and, no thanks to Apple.
