Title:

Kenmore 70 washer intermittently stops spinning

Text:

Good morning, our Kenmore 70 series washer works perfectly fine (adds water, agitates, drains and spins) for about two washes/cycles. However, if we have to do another load, it will add water, agitate, and drain, but will not spin on its own unless we open and then close the lid. It will then drain and spin just as it should. Any ideas before I start throwing money at it? The only new parts it has is a motor/gear box coupler.

+Edit: just wanted to add that it will do this during the middle of a cycle. For instance, it will add water, agitate, and then drain and spin just fine. Then during the rinse, it will add water, agitate, drain but not spin. All of this without touching the lid. To me this seems to eliminate the lid switch, since it will do this without touching the lid during the middle of a cycle.
