Here is what worked well for me. I added a Battery Switch which requires simple technical skills.⏎[br]
Cut the battery's yellow and orange wires, and extend the wires to a switch (DPDT On-On 2 Position Locking Mini Toggle Switch).

I drilled a small hole in the back of the radio for the switch.⏎[br]

Now to charge the battery and to use the radio on battery, I enable the switch. When plugged, I turn the switch OFF to save the battery. The radio battery display indicate the battery status (missing when off of course).⏎[br]
Be careful when working with the battery, they can burn if shortened!
