Clothes dryer repair and support guides.

My dryer doesn't start without help

I have a Hoover VisionHD VHC 781 XT.

WHEN I press the start button it makes a sound as if it was blocked but when I rotate even just a little bit the fan (blower?) behind (only rotating part accessible without completely opening it) it starts and works as normal. When it runs the back plates moves as of it was breathing (I have no idea if it did that before or not). Any idea what it could be and how to fix it?

Edit: I launched a cycle staying next to it to see if there was something more. When the dryer switches the direction of rotation from anticlockwise to clockwise it has no problem but when switching from clockwise to anticlockwise it stops again and needs a new push. So it only fails to start the rotation when turning anticlockwise. I understand it even less than before…

Chosen Solution

Check the tension on the drive belt.

UPDATE

Take a look at this video and see if you can relate, sounds like you may have a bad start capacitor.:

How does it have to be? Loose, tight or in between?

In-between. Trying pulling on the belt and see if it slips on the drive

Thanks ^^ It doesn't slip and the strength needed to rotate is as before. (Have you seen the edit on my post though?).

But when I manually rotate it anticlockwise I can feel kind of a scratch that I don't feel when rotating clockwise.

Hi @tesachi ,

Don't know your dryer but looking at the parts list there are 2 jockey pulley assemblies part #797 and a spring part #799 associated with the main motor part #171.

I'm assuming that the pulleys would be associated with the belt and the spring perhaps is to provide the tension somehow.

There are two other parts listed with the main motor, #156C and #798 but they aren't in the parts list but I have no idea what they do.

The parts are shown in the drum assembly -condenser page 5 of the pdf. Hopefully this will be of some further help.

To add to @mayer update there is a suppressor #164 which I think is the start/run capacitor perhaps

It looks like it I'm gonna find a corresponding capacitor and come back when I got more news. Thanks a lot to both of you guys.
