new ipod, the bose sound is ace, but I'm biased..resale value on a used ipod is pretty good. Your Bose is worth more money than the ipod 2g..

The Bose Soundock will not charge the 2nd gen iPod by design. There are difference in the dock connection. Unless you are willing to open the Sounddock and do some heavy rewiring, there is no way to work it.

ot3 is this only for 2g? have just charged my 1g on our bose(I).. think there were some problems with the bose dock ruining dock connectors in phones etc, our Bose connector has been swapped this year for ruining the husbands 3GS dock twice (under warranty)

pollytintop, it holds true for the "older " Sounddock. 2G touch, will not charge using this "older" accessories. The original SoundDock use the 12 volt pin on the dock connector used by firewire to charge. Of course, Apple is going away from firewire support and now charges iPods using the more common 5 volt pin used by USB.

@ oldturkey03: I'm suffering the same problem withe a bose sound dock: only the products that have firewire, are charged. Can I just add the 5 v at pin 23 (usb) to use also the iPhone or do I have to remove the 12v (firewire)? Do I have to change something else (e.g. resistor at pin 21)?

And NO, I'm not afraid of opening the device and rewire something, its my profession to repair cellphone pcb's.

It should work. Check on http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/ipod_p... for the pinout of the new generation iPod. I will also tell you where to use the resistors and other anomalies....good luck

Because I'm not quite getting it.. Are you going to rewire the iPod/iPhone?? I thought Bose brought out a replacement part/ male connector to solve that? Am I confuddled and it didn't solve the charging issue?

by

pollytintop, I think (hope) oldrecordplayer is thinking about changing the wiring on his sound dock...:-)
