My phone is showing headphone icon and they aren't..no sound now.
my icon is showing headphones are plugged in and they aren't. however I have no sound..

Do you mean no sound from the headphones socket or from the phone speaker?
There is an internal contact in the phone’s headphone socket that is operated when a headphone’s plug is inserted, which signals the OS to switch the audio output away from the phone’s speaker to the external speaker. The OS also turns on the icon.
It appears as though it is stuck in the operated position
Try gently inserting and removing the headphones jack plug into the phone’s headphones’ socket a few times to see if this releases the contact. Also try gently wiggling the plug whilst it is in the socket.
If still no good then the socket will have to be replaced as it cannot be repaired.
