Why won't my iMac display anything?
The iMac turns on, plays the boot chime, and shows the normal white screen. After 1-2 seconds, the screen becomes black but it continues booting.
Is this a good question?

I would try the onboard diagnostics to see if that loads. Restart the system and using a USB keyboard press the D key to enter, run the diagnostics and let us know of any errors.

The iMac does the same thing. It plays the boot chime, shows a white screen, then dips into black and doesn't display anything.
@elmoh - this series had a combo GeForce 9400M/North Bridge chip which tended to fail. I would see if someone local has some good electronics skills to help you double check for a burnt capacitor which I’ve also seen on the power rail. Otherwise it’s time for a new logic board. That then gets into your needs.
@danj Thank you so much. I couldn't find any burnt capacitors so I ordered a used logic board off of Ebay and it works just like new
have you tried connecting to a monitor or tv to see if it will display anything on the monitor or tv?

@timtomissus I plugged the iMac to my TV and it shows that there is something plugged in but it is powered off, even though the iMac is powered on. I can know if it booted onto something by pressing the Caps Lock key on my keyboard and the light turns on
