Originally Apple produced the AirPort Base Station. On January 7, 2003, Apple released the AirPort Extreme Base Station. The new AirPort was capable of 54Mbit/s speeds as well as external antenna and USB ports. The antenna port allowed consumers to boost the routers signal with an external antenna. The USB port allowed users to set up printer sharing by connecting a printer to the AirPort Extreme. The AirPort Extreme has the capability to serve 50 wireless users simultaneously as well as the two LAN connections.
