Background

The Chromebook Pixel (2015) is the second version of the Chromebook Pixel laptop, part of Google’s Pixel series. Google discontinued the 2015 model in 2017 and halted software updates in 2018.

The Chromebook Pixel (2015) had a sale price of $999 USD, lower than the 2013 model’s $1,299. The updated model runs on a more powerful Intel Core i5 processor and comes with 8 GB RAM but the same amount of storage, 32 GB. The Chromebook Pixel (2015) boasts a 12.85-inch touch screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio. Instead of the 2013 version’s special barrel connector, the 2015 version has two USB-C charging ports. Google also claimed the 2015 version has a battery life of up to 12 hours.

The Chromebook Pixel (2015) received mixed reception. Its price tag was similar to other high-end laptops, but ChromeOS comes with operational limitations that do not correlate with a high price. For example, many applications will not run on ChromeOS. Additionally, poor sound quality, unresponsive keys, and charging issues are common consumer complaints. Overall, critics feel the laptop overperforms given its limited function.

Many reviewers praise the laptop’s graphics and sleek, sturdy construction. Others think the lowered price is more reasonable. ChromeOS programmers are the most common satisfied Chromebook Pixel users.

Identification

The Chromebook Pixel 2015 has a sleek, compact body with a matte silver finish and a cylindrical hinge. The device has a single USB type C port, two USB type 3 ports, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the left side. The right side has another USB type C port and an SD Card slot. The model number and other information is located on the underside of the device. To positively identify the Chromebook, look for a debossed "chrome" on the left side of the hinge, and a colored lightbar on the front of the exterior.
