Founded in 1909, the Bugatti company is a German/French automotive manufacturer known for its high-performance vehicles. Some famous Bugatti Automobiles include the Type 35 Grand Prix cars, the Type 41 "Royale", the Type 57 "Atlantic", and the type 55 sports car.
After the death of the founder Ettore Bugatti in 1947, and his son Jean Bugatti in 1939, the company was left with no successor, resulting in the company struggling financially. At the time no more than 8,000 cars were made.
The company was eventually sold in 1963 for the [[Topic:Aircraft Part|aircraft parts|new_window=true]] it produced, and in 1987 the company was rebranded to Bugatti Automobili S.p.A and was again rebranded to Bugatti Automobiles S.a.S after being bought out by the [[Topic:Volkswagen|Volkswagen Group|new_window=true]] in 1998.
