Hewlett-Packard (HP) manufactures consumer electronics, including laptops, desktops, printers, monitors, and more. HP originated in 1939 when Bill Hewlett and David Packard, two Stanford electric engineering alums, combined their last names and began their new company out of a garage in Palo Alto, California. Interestingly, HP was just a coin toss away from being called PH (Packard-Hewlett). Hewlett-Packard today is still headquartered in Palo Alto, but the company supplies electronics worldwide.
Among HP consumer electronics is the HP TouchSmart IQ500 Series. The TouchSmart IQ500 is a touchscreen, all-in-one desktop computer with a wireless keyboard and mouse. The left side of the IQ500 includes two USB ports in addition to microphone and headphone audio jacks. A light switch is also included on the side of the computer which can be used to illuminate the keyboard. The right side of the PC includes a slot-loading DVD drive, volume controls, a memory card reader, and a four-pin FireWire port. Additional ports, including three more USB ports, Ethernet, an audio-out port, and an RF aerial socket, are located at the rear of the system, hidden behind a flap.
The TouchSmart IQ500 includes 4 GB of RAM and a 32-bit operating system. It features a 22-inch touch-sensitive display that uses a set of LEDs around the screen to detect the movement of a user’s fingers.
