The HP EliteBook 745 G5 is part of HP's eighth generation EliteBook series of laptops, which are high-end business laptops designed to be a more premium alternative to the ProBook lineup. The EliteBook 745 G5 was released in 2018, and was praised for its good build quality, slim profile, and security features. It was also widely criticized for its unimpressive battery life.

The EliteBook 745 G5 specifically is noteworthy because it is among the first laptops to feature an AMD Ryzen CPU, released in the previous year. This is different from the other eighth generation HP EliteBook, which mostly run Intel processors. When it was released, it was sold from between $799.00 to $1499.00, depending on the configuration.

In the 2018 eighth generation of EliteBook laptops, the 745 G5 is very much a middle tier device. The EliteBook 735 G5 featured a similar set of AMD Ryzen processors, but had a smaller 13.3" screen.
