Background and Identification

A jigsaw is a saw which uses a reciprocating blade to cut irregular curves, such as stenciled designs, in wood, metal, or other materials. Modern jigsaws are typically portable and controllable with one hand.

Jigsaws can be used with a variety of saw blades which determine the materials that can be cut and the size, shape and quality of the cut.
