Background and Identification
The Porsche Design USB-C Hard Drive is the result of a collaboration between Porsche Design, a product design studio in Austria, and LaCie, an electronics company from France. The hard drive comes in an aluminum enclosure finished with colors like silver, gold, and rose gold. The USB-C port on the case allows you to connect the drive to any computer with a USB connection.
Both the 1 TB and 2 TB models of the USB-C hard drive come in a slim case. LaCie also sold 4 TB and 5 TB models which used a thicker case. You can identify your Porsche Design USB-C drive by looking for the serial number printed on the bottom of the case as shown in this guide from Lacie Support. Put those digits into Lacie’s check warranty page to find information about your model.
Unfortunately, opening the enclosure is not as simple as it is with other drives. Once you get past the case, however, you can replace the hard drive inside with a different 2.5” hard drive or SSD as long as it 7 mm thick or less. Any thicker 2.5” hard drive will not fit inside the enclosure.
