Background and Identification
The Intel-based 20” iMac line includes five categories of 20-inch desktop computers by Apple. Several of these models are EDU only, meaning they were originally only sold to educational institutions.
The original 20” iMac Intel was released in 2006. It was made of a white polycarbonate material. The laptop was redesigned to have an aluminum encasing in 2007. In 2009, Apple made notable upgrades, including a higher resolution screen, increased RAM, and more memory, but Apple also changed the screen size options to 21.5 or 27 inches. The iMac 20” was left in 2007.
Apple continued to improve both the 21.5 and 27-inch versions, slimming them down to fit Apple’s signature sleek, modern look. The most current (as of summer 2020) iMac Intel was released in 2019, but, as mentioned, the 20” line of these computers hasn’t been touched since 2007.
All 20” Intel iMacs have a base that connects to the display and allows it to rest vertically on the desired work surface. They include the Apple logo printed just below the screen on the front of the monitor. The original 20” Intel iMac was white, but models since 2006 are all silver in color.
