Introduction

Go to step 1

This guide focuses on how to replace a D5 Pump Impeller in your aquarium with a few additional tools. The impeller is the part of the pump that is spun to move water. Over time, the pump impeller’s contact point can wear down and the impeller can get stuck. This is usually characterized by a screeching or grinding noise and no water flow.

Step 1 will require you to drain a water-cooling loop in order to access the pump. Since every loop is unique, it is untimely to include a guide for this. However, guides on how to drain water-cooling loops can be found easily on websites like YouTube. If you do not already have this prerequisite knowledge, then it is recommended that you learn before starting this guide.

Regardless, ensure that your system is disconnected from power before beginning.

    • Visually inspect your impeller. It should be parallel to the pump.

    • If the impeller is lopsided, remove it and ensure that there is no debris blocking the installation.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow the first step in reverse.

Wow, that was useless. I mean it’s pretty obvious and straightforward process. If you are capable of assembling the loop, you are more than capable of replacing the impeller without any guide. The question is where can one find a new impeller, but ofc this useless guide won’t tell you.

Have not found one place selling impellers other then AliExpress but after shipping and everything you might as well buy a whole pump unit and have a warranty.
