Dewalt Nailers DCN21PL 2018 Profile Replacement - iFixit Repair Guide

Introduction

Use this guide to remove or replace the profile from within the return system assembly in a Dewalt DCN21PL 2018 Nailer.

What you need

Step 1 Remove the battery

Before you begin the repair, remove the battery from the device.

Step 2 Remove return system

Use the provided 3.5 mm hex key to remove the two return system bolts on either side of the nailer.

Step 3

Pull the end cap away from the nailer to remove the return system assembly.
Reassembly tip: make sure the rails slide into their correct guide holes.

Step 4 Remove rail clips

Use your thumbs to pull the spring bumpers just far enough away from the rail clips so they aren't touching.

Step 5

Use a large flathead screwdriver to slide the rail clip off of the tip of the rail.
Remove the rail clip.

Step 6 Remove spring bumpers

Firmly grasp the spring bumper. Pull up while twisting to remove it from the rail.
Remove the spring bumper and accompanying washer.
Repeat Steps 4-6 for the other rail.

Step 7 Remove springs

Pull both springs directly up off the rails to remove.

Step 8 Remove profile

With the rails clear, the profile can now slide off. Pull the profile off the rails to remove.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
