Fixing a Rusted Measuring Tape

Use this guide to fix any rusted measuring tape.

Over time measuring tapes tend to rust. It prevents accurate measurements, which can impact your project. This guide illustrates 7 steps to make any rusted measuring tape work accurately again.

What you need

  1. Fixing a Rusted Measuring Tape, Measuring Tape: step 1, image 1 of 1

    • Untighten the 9.5 mm Phillips screw with the Phillips screwdriver.

    • Remove the belt clip.

    • Pull the case length off.

    • Untighten the 15.7 mm Phillips screw with the Phillips screwdriver.

    • Spray lubricant solution (WD-40) into the spring as indicated.
