The screen cover is the plastic window in front of the LCD screen. This guide shows how to replace the screen cover of the Game Boy Color.

What you need

Tools

    • Locate the battery compartment on the back of the Game Boy Color.

    • Push down on the tab and hinge the cover downwards and outwards to remove the battery cover.

    • Remove the batteries from the battery compartment.

  3. Game Boy Color Screen Cover Replacement, Screen Cover: step 3, image 1 of 1
    • Carefully slide a razor blade under one of the corners of the screen cover.

  4. Game Boy Color Screen Cover Replacement: step 4, image 1 of 1
    • Carefully lift up on the corner of the screen until you can grab the corner with your fingers.

    • Continue gently pulling up on the cover until it is fully removed.

Conclusion

You only need step 7 and 8.

An alternative method is to in step 7 insert a small screwdriver into the hole in the front shell where the power light goes through and push off the screen enough to pry it off with your hands. Thereby avoiding this razor-near-the-screen business. You will also most likely need some alcohol (or similar) to loosen the residue leftover from the old screen.

Yes that's true! I've seen repair videos where they do it the way you mentioned, much less of a headache
