How to Fix a Carabiner

What you need

    • Position the carabiner so that the gate is pushed forward past the nose and the latch is hanging out.

    • Position the pliers between the rivet pin.

    • The rivet pin is a flat rectangle metal piece poking out of the hinges.

    • Gently but firmly squeeze the rivet pin behind the hinge.

    • Push the gate back, so that it is behind the nose.

    • Be sure to push the gate slowly and carefully, to avoid unnecessary jerking around, which could potentially break the carabiner further.

    • Position the gate back to the original position behind the nose.

    • The gate should now snap back into position securely. If it does not, repeat the process.

    • Be sure that the rivet pin was not bent or broken in the act of guiding the gate back to its original position.
