Introduction

In this guide, we show you how to uninstall and reinstall RAM, or random access memory. This critical component helps devices in storing files and keeping them in “memory.” It serves as a temporary storage for your computer’s operating system, software programs, etc. The more of it you have, the better for the long-term.

What you need

Remove the screws from the base plate for access to the motherboard, where the RAM is located.

Once the screws are off, start to remove the base plate.

Fully remove the base plate so you can access the RAM.

Locate the RAM stick (blue box on the left) and the RAM battery (blue box on the right).

First, for the reinstallation process, remove the RAM battery (red box on the right).

To remove the RAM battery, tug the black rope and disconnect the metal head from the socket.

For the RAM stick, first remove the black flap that is covering it.

Once the black flap is removed, slide the RAM stick out for further inspection. Slide it back in and place the black flap over it to restart the process.
