Introduction
Keyboards, like those from Razer, aren’t exactly designed for the user to open and make repairs. Nevertheless, it’s usually possible to fix the most common problems yourself. In this guide, you will find out how to disassemble a Razer Huntsman Elite to clean or replace various components.
What you need
-
-
Make sure that the keyboard is disconnected before you proceed.
-
-
-
Carefully remove all keycaps. A keycap-puller is helpful for this.
-
Be careful with the larger keys, ex: the space bar or enter key. These have stabilizers on the sides and are easier to loosen by hand. Pull them up evenly.
-
The multimedia keys should not be removed.
-
-
-
Loosen and remove all screws attached to the front:
-
18 8 mm #0 Phillips screws
-
-
-
Turn the keyboard over, so the backside is facing up.
-
Remove all of the rubber feet from the backside to reveal the screws underneath.
-
Note: It's fine to only pull the rubber feet back enough to see the screws. The markings in the photo show where the screws are located.
-
-
-
Remove all screws from the back:
-
Eight 5 mm #0 Phillips screws
-
Use an iFixit opening pick between the back panel and the transparent plastic ring to remove the back panel from the keyboard.
-
It's best to begin in the middle of the bottom edge of the keyboard and slowly work your way around it.
-
The back panel is fixed with clips in some places. Don't use force! Work carefully, applying light pressure around the keyboard until it comes loose.
-
-
-
-
Remove all screws form the RGB circuit board.
-
Nine 2.8 mm #0 Phillips screws
-
Bend the small cable away from the top of the circuit board and tilt the board toward you. Be careful, as there is another cable on the bottom! Don't pull on the board!
-
Use the flat side of the iFixit spudger tool to remove the RGB-board cord and then remove the RGB board.
-
-
-
Use an iFixit opening pick to remove the RGB diffusor. Begin in the middle (in the area that was previously covered by the circuit board). Once the area is loosened, you can carefully grab under the diffuser and slowly pull it toward you. It should gradually loosen from the keyboard.
-
Don't press too hard with the opening pick and don't pull to hard on the diffusor. Otherwise, it could break.
-
-
-
Remove the USB cable screws:
-
Two 6 mm #0 Phillips screws (round head)
-
Loosen the cable attachment from the keyboard. Be careful, the cable is still connected to the circuit board, so don't pull on it!
-
-
-
Remove all screws from the circuit board cover:
-
Three 3 mm #00 Phillips screws
-
Use an iFixit opening pick to remove the back cover from the aluminum top-plate.
-
It's best to start on the underside of the keyboard directly near the contacts for the wrist-rest. Here you have to carefully lift the cover over the contacts. Use a second opening pick if necessary. Work your way around the keyboard until the cover loosens.
-
-
-
Pull loose the cables from the clamp fixture on the cover.
-
Lift the cover and remove the cables from the circuit board. For this, use the curved iFixit tweezers. Now you can completely detach the cable from the cover.
-
-
-
Use a spudger to remove the latch on one of the sockets of the flex cable and pull out the cable. Open only one of the connection points so you don’t lose the cable.
-
Remove all screws to remove the multimedia board.
-
Two 2 mm #000 Phillips screws
-
You can now easily pull out the volume knob.
-
-
-
Remove the board carefully on the right side. Don't bend the multimedia board, but pull it straight up. It's plugged into the motherboard with 30 pins.
-
Now you can take out the three multimedia keys.
-
-
-
To remove a switch, use the flat side of the iFixit spudger to press the short sides of the switch together and slide the switch out.
-
When you re-install the switches, make sure that the word "Razer" is the right way around.
-
When reinstalling the switches, only press down on the black part of of the switches to avoid blocking the mechanism.
-
-
-
Remove all screws attaching the top plate to the motherboard:
-
Six 3 mm #00 Phillips screws
-
Complete the steps in reverse order to reassemble your device.

can u change 1 key 'E' that has stopped working. Can i swap it with another key? DIY no soldering?
That depends a bit on what is broken. If it only is the plastic part you could just switch it out with one that isn't (either new or just take one that you do not use). If the actual light on the PCB is broken, it will not be possible without soldering.

Is there a picture of the otherside of the naked PCB (after plate is removed).
Also anyone know what the diodes and pickups are on the stiches I have a bad Tab key and think I need to try and unsolder and replace them,
Do you know the value of the resistor or what the series of the components is?
