Have you ever browsed iFixit and felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of guides? After all, you only own a few devices, and you search for them all the time. If you wish you had quick access to repair guides and replacement parts for just your devices, let us introduce you to “My Workbench.”
My Workbench is a feature on our website that contains a library of devices you own, with shortcuts to repair guides, answers, and replacement parts for each. Whenever you’re about to purchase a replacement part, our compatibility checker will tell you if that part will work for your specific device. If you’ve ever shopped online for replacement auto parts and put in your vehicle’s information into the compatibility checker, My Workbench is very similar to that. Here’s how it works.
How to Access Your Workbench
We made this really easy and convenient to access: simply click on the small toolbox icon to the right of the search bar at the top of the page anywhere on the iFixit website.

This will show you a list of devices you own, if you’ve added any. If not, you can click on “Add Device” (more on that in the next section).

When you click on a specific device in the list, you’ll get shortcuts to repair guides, questions specific to your device in our Answers Forum, and replacement parts (if we sell them)—no more searching and scavenging trying to find a guide for your specific model!

How to Add a Device to Your Workbench
There are a couple of ways to add a device to your Workbench. The first method is to click on the Workbench icon and select “Add Device,” as mentioned above. From there, you can search for a specific device using the search bar at the top of the window, or use the category selector starting on the left side.

You can also navigate to a specific device page, like the device page for the Pixel 3, and then click on “I Have This.”

If there are different versions of the same device, such as the iPhone with different models for certain carriers and/or countries, place a checkmark next to the specific model you own, if you know it.

How the Compatibility Checker Works
To see what replacement parts will work with a specific device you own, you can click on the “Parts” shortcut within the Workbench pop-up menu, as discussed further above. However, if you stumbled upon a specific part outside of this, the part’s product page will tell you if it works with your device, directly under the “Add to Cart” button.

Click on it to bring up a drop-down list of your devices to select from. Choose the device you’re buying the part for and you’ll either see a green arrow or a red X, the former of which means you’re good to go, and the latter means that the part isn’t compatible with the selected device.
Depending on your device and the part you need, the compatibility checker might show a yellow question mark, indicating that the part is compatible with the device, but maybe not the specific version. For example, if you added the iPhone 7 to your Workbench but didn’t indicate a specific model number (like A1660 or A1778), the compatibility checker will raise a caution flag if you’re looking at a replacement logic board, which is model number-specific.
So what are you waiting for? Start adding devices to your Workbench so that you can spend less time searching and more time fixing!

A workbench is a sturdy table at which manual work is done. They range from simple flat surfaces to very complex designs that may be considered tools in themselves. My Workbench is a feature on our website that contains a library of devices you own, with shortcuts to repair guides, answers, and replacement.

Does "My Workbench" only work on laptops or desktops?
I only have a cell phone to do anything online right now and I don't see the same toolbar shown in this article.
Thanks in advance for any info

Hi @ezrway, as of right now, you won't be able to access the Workbench from your mobile device. However, we're always improving our site! I've passed on this comment do our developers so you might see this change someday!

If viewing from a mobile chrome browser, you may able to still change how Chrome displays the page to you by:
1. Navigate to workbench as usual.
2.Locate browser settings (typically three vertical dots) and open it up,
3. Select what may be either "view desktop site" or simply "desktop site". There will be some switch or checkbox to indicate on or off. Turn it on.
Once you turn it on, it should automatically reload the page as you'd see it from the desktop. Voi la. Worked for me, hope it helps others.
