My Problem
The front fenders would break almost instantly, and would also rattle terribly.
My Fix
With help from Vince at the wheelchair repair clinic at the Independent Living Resource Center SF, we took off the front wheel, added new bolts to the fender and some loctite, and replaced everything. The rattle was gone! Hooray!
My Advice
It helps to have a fancy wheelchair jack to lift the front wheels off the ground safely while working. The EZJack is pretty great: https://osb-inc.ca/products/eezejack .
Have a tray or something to hold the various screws while removing the wheel. Taking photos along the way at every step will also help you put it all back together.
