Hello folks. I'm still trying to fix my iPod, but it has been troublesome since I have no idea where to start or what to replace. I think that this issue might be caused by a faulty power management IC or FireWire chip, however, these models tend to short pretty frequently, based on this, I decided to upload pictures of the logic board of my iPod 3rd gen to check which are the parts in the logic board that handle the FireWire 12V output. If any of you'd like to help I uploaded the pictures into this google folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folde... What's the point of this? I would like to start to create a post that can outline the chips in the 3rd gen logic board, I believe that a handful of us iPod collectors still use and care for this model, being so prone to shorts I think that a guide with the chips that handle and distribute the 12 Volts would be pretty useful.
Read moreHello, do you notice any heating on the right side of your iPod (near the FFW button)? Maybe the iPod shorted out.
Read moreThis might point to a hard drive failure. Try putting the iPod into disk mode (first, reset the iPod pressing Menu + Center buttons for about 5sec until the screen goes black, immediately press Center button + Play) and try to restore the iPod this way. If it still doesn't show up or restore, your hard drive might be failing.
Read moreFor what I've seen in some of these 5ths gens the center button tends to move after a considerable amount of use. What you can do is take apart the front assembly and check the center button. It should have a small black rubber button below, taped into the logic board with yellow tape, usually this button moves from its position and you have to put it back on. For these kind of repair I use a tiny bit of adhesive and place the button in place. With just enough adhesive the button won't move from its position and it'll click fine. If that doesn't work, try removing the small black rubber button and check for corrosion, you could also try cleaning with a little bit of alcohol. If you need a guide on these repair you can ask me how and I'll post pictures of the procedure in here.

Read moreI looked this diode on a broken logic board that I have and it is named DZ3, if I recall correctly, one of these handle the firewire or USB output to the logic board (the other one is DZ1 an inch away). You might replace it with another one from a spare logic board.
Read moreIt looks like you got a battery for the 160gb thick model from 2007 (6th gen), and yours might be 2009 model (7th gen) is slimmer. You need to check which model you have by pasting your iPod's serial number on this site: http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/ap.... It'll show you info about your iPod's production date and generation, from which you can tell which model is it.
Read moreThis might point out to a display related issue. Did you try replacing with one from another iPod? Spare displays some times can cause trouble because their quality is not as good as the original parte.
