there are two types of networks, CDMA and GSM. CDMA SIM cards are not compatible with GSM phones, and vice-versa. Also, if you have not unlocked your phone from it's carrier and are trying to use a SIM card from another carrier, it will not work. You may also have a damaged SIM card.
Try taking out SIM card from slot on right side of the phone(check the SIM card for crud that might be interfering with the SIM card contacts. Clean it with a DRY toothbrush.) , putting the phone in airplane mode, and putting the SIM card back in. Then turn airplane mode off. If that does not work, take out the SIM card again, and restart the phone, and put the SIM card back in. If that does not work, force restart your phone by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until the Phone restarts. Do this last step with the SIM card in. Only by last resort should you replace the antenna. Hope I could help. -a novice
one thing that may cause your iPhone to reject your charging cable is that your charging socket/hole/connector may be full of dirt, like lint, or dust. a good way to clean this out is with a toothpick, carefully. alternate scraping the dirt out and blowing in the charger port to loosen the dirt. dirt in the charger hole may cause a poor connection, including the error message
