Hey there! iFixit employee here. I just tested several batteries in benches, and I haven't seen any issues with showing usage. If you haven't already, hold the power and home buttons to do a full reset, and see if that solves the issue. If you don't have any luck with that, you may actually have some minor logic board damage. Hope this helps, and remember not to take everything an Apple Tech will tell you at face value. Happy repairing!
Read moreHey Anna! All may not be lost. The only way to know for sure is to take the display off and see what's going on under the hood. The fact that there's no recognition from the computer is troubling, but it may just be that your battery got disconnected. My recommendation is to get that screen off, and lets us know what the condition of your board is. Pictures are extremely helpful, and I can help you with troubleshooting once you have more information. Best of luck in your repair!
Read moreHey Lucas! That charger may actually be your problem. the 85W charger is meant for 15" or 17" macbooks, and they have the batteries to withstand that pressure. Some 13" batteries end up failing after a while due to the excess charging. In conjunction with your magsafe light staying green, it seems that your battery is no longer accepting a charge. :'( Changing the battery is comically simple, with the only difficulty being some pesky Tri-wing screws. Otherwise you can find a replacement battery here. Best of luck with your repair!
Read moreHey Rob! That's quite the odd behavior! Usually that's a sign of the LCD connection being faulty, even if it's seated properly. I'd check the pins in the connections, both device side and display side. The thing to check for is dust/debris in the connection or bent pins. If everything looks pristine, and the device still behaves strangely, then I'd say it's an LCD issue deeper in the display, and you should seek replacement. Best of luck with your repair!
Read moreHey Bryan! I'm having a member of our awesome CS team send you an email about this issue. In the meantime, I would say re-install the original battery if it's not too mangled from disassembly, and otherwise you might be sans phone until your new one arrives. :( As a side note, well done taking care of your battery, I hope the replacement treats you better than this battery.
Read moreHey Jeremiah! The display does in fact only have two cables which should terminate under a protective bracket. There is another connection to the battery, but it's attached to the gasket around the display not the display itself. If that came off with your display, you'll have to reseat it into your watch before being able to install your new display. All the best!
Read moreJust tested it! Looks like it needs a battery plugged in to start, but the capacity and current charge don't matter. I put a known dead battery in, plugged it in, and it booted. You can also disconnect the battery and it will just run on the incoming voltage. TL;DR It needs a battery, but the condition of the battery doesn't matter.
Read moreHey Josh! I just had our CS team reply to your email. In the meantime, I would say re-install the original battery if it's not too mangled from disassembly, and otherwise you might be tied to a charger until your new one arrives. Great job troubleshooting!
Read moreHey there! I recommend talking to our awesome customer service team over on this page if you think the product is defective. If you're worried about troubleshooting, could you let us know more about the intermittency of your issues? Is it a certain spot, or just at certain times? I recommend making sure that your connectors are properly seated as well and that your display bracket hasn't moved anything out of place. All the best!
Read moreThe short answer is, there's no way to be sure just how deep the issues go without trying it. If you've taken all the necessary precautions, and opened it up, dried it out, and are sure it's ready to be operational, giving it a new display is likely worth a shot. If you get the display from iFixit, we have an amazing return policy where you can return it if it doesn't fix your issue, and you'd only be out shipping in the worst case. Best of luck in your repair!
