When the motherboard fails in the graphics regain, alien objects appear on the screen, I've seen red and blue lines following windows even yellow checker boards, desplayed. I would say that the logic board is the problem. i would bring it back to apple and it doesn't surprise me that when u plug a new screen via dongle that it works I dont think it is that data cable and the inverter board, no way, but i think the other screens are fine - Tim Klesse

Mike- It very well could be the DC-in board this what i would do. 1st click on the apple and go into "about this mac" then hit "more info" and then in the left hand side bar click on "power" and look at the cycle count and also the conduction. then go head and pop in the install disk and hold D upon start up and see if the computer gives you any errors but this could also be an OS problem, so if you have a firewire cable, put your working MacB into target mode and connect the two and have the "problemed" MacB boot into the "good" MacB and see if the problem continues, if so then yes it could be the DC_in board or possibly the logic board. if you need any help feel free to email me - Tim Klesse KlesseTech Timothy@Klesse.com www.KlesseTech.com

when you say backlight are you talking about that the screen doesn't get brighter? if so i would say that if it is the screen then its not digitizer. accordingly it could be a mother board issue based on that fact that the board isn't relaying enough power into the screen. or poss that batt isn't harnessing enough wattage. before you go and buy a new screen to drop in make sure all the connections are and that none of them wiggled out! but before opening it make sure ur setting are correct - Tim Klesse

From personal experience, I can tell you that "red, black and purple vertical lines" indicates that there is a motherboard issue. when the motherboard fails in the graphics regain, alien objects appear on the screen, I've seen red and blue lines following windows even yellow checker boards, desplayed. I would say that the logic board is the problem. but find the original boot disks and read them to find out which one has the hardware test on it. and preform a hardware test, you will need to use a superdrive or a maybe the remote install app in the utility folder (if it has that option?)
