After you will the new drive, you will have to use Airport Utility to erase. It will format the drive and prepare to be used in the device. Use the option of Zero Out Data. It takes longer than the quick option but it is safer.
Take photos during the process. After you took all apart, I recommend using pressurized air to clean the dust the device collected over the years.
When using a different hard drive from the one that came with it, have in mind you will have to make adjustments on 3 rubber parts to fit the new hard drive in the same place again.
On the 2 smaller rubber parts, before taking it from its place, take a look at the photo to remember the position they were. Make the adjustments using a scalpel, cutting some edges to make the rubber parts “match” the contour of the new hard drive. When you install back this parts, pay attention the position they were before, fixing it with the 2 TR8 Torx screws. If the hard drive doesn't fit well and stays at the same level as before, it will make harder to close the device at the end.
On the rubber pad, the adjustments are more important because they can't cover the clips on the case or it won't close as it should.
Make sure the LED wire is before the clip or it can be damaged.
On Step 23, before removing the adhesive tapes, PLEASE, give MORE emphasis on the fact that removing the Taptip engine is an easy step and facilitate very much the removal of the tapes.
How about the stick tape that goes around the frame? Where can I buy that because there is no way to remove the original one without breaking it. Even if you use hot air to loose it a bit.
Please, I looking to find the answer to my question but I had no luck.
I bought a new Mac mini Core i5 2.8Ghz (2018) with 1TB Fusion drive. Can I upgrade the SSD and the HD? Can I use comum market parts or it must be from Apple? What is the specification for the SSD? My intention is to install a 512GB SSD and a 2TB FireCuda HD.
Hi Emilio,
I read your comments on your left speaker, and I also have to replace mine. The sound coming from it is very low and muffled. I opened System Preferences>Sound>Output and turned settings full left and full right and there is a big diference between both. My left speaker is broken.
Did you fix your speaker? How as it to fix? Where did you buy it?
I think my problem was caused by me, I had 3 keys not functioning correctly, (5, 6 and b). I saw an Apple Support article about how to clean the keyboard with compressed air. I followed it, but instead of compressed air I used a Contact Clean Spray. I held my MacBook in a 75º angle and applied it the excess liquid that formed came out to the left side. At the time I didn't thought on the speaker. My keys came back and are working fine, but my left speaker is muffled.
Maybe the liquid got to the speaker and soaked the rubber membrane around the speak and ruined it.
Hope you can help me.
Have a good day.
Where are the speakers? Where are they located? Can you put up some pictures?
Is it possible to upgrade the Intel processors?
The 2010 Mac Mini models had temperature sensors on the hard drive, that proved to be a little trick to remove and install a replacement hard drive.
Is it still an issue or did Apple change it?
