3m tape. Check eBay for "Ipod touch 4 adhesive" your casing must be in good shape for a proper fit. If the corners are bent AT ALL they must be reshaped prior to installing the new screen. I do not like using only tape. After sealing the screen in I fill in the space between the glass and plastic bezel with JB Weld and clean it up before it sets. The Jb weld must be only in the crack to help seal it in. It should not be visible to the eye.
it takes at least 3000 Volts to actually feel the spark, so there is quite a large range there where damage can happen without you being aware of it at all...
The "white paper" is just the cover for the backlight so it does not get scratched during shipment. If you see a little tab hanging off, you can be sure this is what it is. It should be removed before installing the screen, as it's presence can cause the screen to not fit, or the LCD may break. Since your LCD still worked, I dont think you have much to worry about, just carefully remove it. Check your digitizer connection. Its a weak and annoying connection that can be difficult sometimes. Ensure you rememebr to tape it back up with the copper tape! The biggest thing to remember is to maintain your cool. If you start getting rushed and agitated it is VERY easy to tear the volume/power ribbon while installing the digitizer connection. Unless you have tiny fingers, use a nylon tweezers to set the connection. Unscrewing the front camera nearest the digitizer connection also gives you more room to work without damaging anything. Good luck!
What model and generation is it? It definitely sounds like you broke your LCD screen. They're not all that difficult to replace. I have replaced many that people have broken from a drop.
The iPhone 4 Screen and 4S screen are very similar. The connections are the same, the home buttons are interchangeable, but the tabs are slightly different. With slight modifications, a 4 screen should work with a 4s phone (like verizon iPhone 4 screens on an ATT iPhone 4) here's a video that will show you the minor differences: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFn_j-XsOQ4 Fast forward to 12:05 for the comparison, but the whole video shows a complete tear down.
not to be redundant, but this is how i did my first DS repair. A buddy from work brought it in just to see if i could do something with it. I cleaned it as stated above and it worked just fine again. Water damage is tricky (Coke damage much worse) but alcohol is the answer.
Theres better layout charts out there, but this is the one i like to use. make sure to tape it down and turn off any fans :) http://unitediphonerepair.com/?p=73&opti...
