WD-40 is just mineral oil. The oil probably is lubricating the membrane and switch so much that it cannot read a press. To fix this I would recommend using 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol to clean away the oils. Be sure to not use WD-40 on electronics, as it is meant to lubricate and protect metal parts.
If it is under warranty then you can send it in to meta to get it fixed, but if it is out of warranty, then follow the disassembly guide to the point of the battery and get a replacement.
If you completley power off the headset, and then hold the power button and the volume down At the same time you can factory reset it. if this does not help please reply to this comment
See if your polarizer has slipped out of the eyepiece. you can check this without opening the system. Grab a pair of polarized sunglasses or glasses and put them up to the eyepiece, If you can see normal colors, then you need to replace the polarizer in the lense, which you can use the disassembly guide to remove the eyepiece.
