Hello, I'm Luke Rice, a UNT Biology student in the class of 2027. With my major I aim to develop solutions for climate change and deforestation, and I am part of a political activist group to push that goal forward.
Although I do not have much experience taking apart technology, I have many years of experiments working with tools and construction. My family builds and remodels houses, and I started working with them at 7 years old. Additionally, I have volunteered in similar conservation and construction projects, most notably working on a farm in Chile in the summer of 2023 building a house on the Pacific coast.
My favorite subjects to study in Biology are the pioneers of an ecosystem. The lichen that breaks down rocks into top soil, the wildflowers and small grasses that are the first to grow, and the small insects that eat and pollinate those flowers. They all have such unique and interesting variation and abilities, and will pave the way to rewilding lost ecosystems after our destruction ends.
