Unfortunately that is most likely a manufacturing defect, your bets bet would be to buy yet another screen replacement to fix it. Vapour could be leaking into the edges, air gaps are expanding due to heat... There are many reason but a more expensive replacement part would go a long way. Hope this helps!

A hard reset should sort this out! It is a very common problem with iPod Touch 4th Generation screen replacements, hold the sleep and home button until it turns off and then power on normally. That really should do it. Hope this helps!

Karl, The grease from your fingers is enough to interfere with the signals of the iPhone, that would affect your cellular and wifi connection too! (however the interference isn't affecting the wifi which is likely) The iPhone doesn't just have GPS, it has A-GPS, with the A standing for Assisted that helps stream down the sync files from the satellite a lot quicker, it could be that the dodgy cellular connection is affecting the sync packages to your iPhone as they take a little longer to be processed. If it takes just the tiniest of time to process, with the speed of light being very quick, it will throw you hundred of metres away, sometimes more! I would heavily suggest using a degreaser, cotton buds, GLOVES! To clean the inside of your iPhone where metal touches metal. That will and should solve things for you. Hope this helps! Ashley.

Flash memory is non-volatile, that means that it won't lose data when with-out power. It is strange how yours seems to wiping data though. What might be happening is the indexing files are being damaged/corrupt as the device powers off, that tells the iPod if a particular sectors of the memory has data on it or not, they would default to zero so think that nothing is there. Its like loosing the catalogue to Argos and saying to yourself, "Argos must be empty!" A bad analogy but that is basically what I think it is doing. Don't know how you would fix that, perhaps getting the battery replaced, a good strong and consistent voltage should possibly stop the index's from resetting. Perhaps, but this is an odd one! I took one of these apart yesterday and found no white rubber as such but did slice through the bit of foam underneath it. It shouldn't case any problems at all, the rubber would be there to support it nicely to the iPod to make sure it is in position. If you want to, try cutting an elastic band into shape and putting it in, maybe even some clay - but, it is up to you whether or not you have stuck the front panel on again. Hope this helps!

Sounds like the backlight has gone! The backlight to your iPhone is probably the most energy-intensive component to your iPhone. It requires alot of power and will have a minimum operating voltage of only a few volts. I see that you have two options; 1) Place your iphone with the back and preferably the logic board (as much as you can really) removed and place it into a dry bag, placing it in a bag of dehydrated rice and then in a dry, warm room like the drying room or pantry overnight should remove any ecxess water or water vapour. This would be a lucky fix but, only cost you 99p. Your second option; buy a new display assembly and replace the LCD with its back light completely. This has a much higher chance of working and although very fiddly, it will most definitely (99% sure) work. Just make sure you order the right one! (either the 4G or 4S) as the two are not compatible unless you want to use an angle grinder and force-fit it, which I as a novice have done and succeeded, but I wouldn't recommend it!...

The iPhone 4S would have a thermistor (a thermal dependant resistor) which is how the iPhone can measure temperature. For most thermistors and most definitely this one the resistance decreases due to the rise in temperature, the micro-controller can measure this resistance and act accordingly. Water obviously conducts electricity to a point, you may have some vapour on this input which is slightly rising the resistance just enough to make the iPhone 'think' it is hotter then it actually is. You can use one of these 'dry bags' that iFixit owns or, a rather more ingenious way is to put your open iPhone into a bag of dehydrated rice overnight, whilst leaving it in a dry, warm area like the drying room in your house. The rice will absorb the water vapour and should solve the problem. That would be the most logical explanation and the most suitable solution. Hope this helps!

Solution is in the last paragraph, cool showing off of my knowledge below! The iPhone has a small arm underneath the sim card tray which tells the iPhone if it has a SIM card inserted or not, when a SIM card is present, it separates the two metal contacts and so, because there isn't a current flowing the iPhone knows that there is one, and to start powering up and reading the SIM card. There might, by the sounds of it, be a loose part which is short-circuiting the iPhone, usually from the high voltage line to naught voltage line, that would mean your short-circuiting your house! If you live in Britian you will (by law) have a GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) If voltage is coming from the live to ground (or zero) then it shuts off the power supply, to stop you from getting electrocuted! Sounds like a deep discharge, as the battery gets old it loses charge must faster then when it was new, being off for a long time will cause a 'deep discharge' and the time span needed for that becomes shorter with use. Presumably you have had the iPhone out of battery for some time more then usual. You can often fix this by doing an 'over-charge' buy just leaving it on mains charge for what I'd say two days. It should then turn on like usual and just remember not to let it go down too far, failing that, get someone (or yourself) to replace the battery. Hope this help! xXx

An inconsistent voltage supply would be the culprit of this, the iPhone 4S requires 3.7 Volts minimum I think, anything less and you might as well take out the battery as not enough power is being delivered to run the iPhone. Cheap battery replacements will cause this, either ask for a replacement one or for a refund and go to another company. Too low a voltage won't cause any permanent damage as it is literally like taking the battery out of a BlackBerry or HTC whilst it is on. Hope this helps! (Remember, buy cheap, buy twice!)
