Overheating

Your computer randomly gets hot and shuts itself off.

Trapped Dust

Toshiba laptops are often known for overheating. They have a heatsink; which is a device that lowers the temperature by dispersing heat into the air. Signs of overheating may be the bottom of the computer or keyboard getting very hot. One thing that can be causing this problem is trapped dust in the heatsink. Which means the cooling system is not working correctly. This can be fixed. Put a vacuum cleaner hose up to the fan opening and see if that clears it out. I recommend putting the computer on a stand, instead of a flat surface.

Bad Fan

Sometimes the fan becomes defective and must be replaced. A common sign of this problem is the fan becomes noisy and perhaps makes a grinding sound, or doesn’t turn on when your laptop heats up.

Laptop Stops Booting and Displays Memory Error

When starting your laptop, it stops booting and displays an error message that refers to a problem with memory.

Loose Memory Chip

Laptops are often exposed to bumps and vibrations that can cause memory chips to pop out of their retention slots. Follow this link to locate your memory chips and make sure they are positioned tightly in their slots.

Faulty Memory Chip

If you are getting a memory error, there is a possibility that the memory in your laptop is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Battery Won’t Charge

Laptop doesn’t show battery charging when you plug it in.

Bad Battery

If you plug in your laptop and it doesn’t start charging your battery, the first thing to try is taking out the battery and turning on your laptop when it is plugged in. If your laptop turns on, then the battery is the problem and needs to be replaced.

Bad Cable or Connectors

If the laptop doesn’t turn on without the battery, the cable or connectors may be broken and should be replaced.

Battery Charge Doesn’t Last Long

Battery has been charged but doesn’t last long enough.

Laptop Working Too Hard

If your battery’s charge doesn’t last, dimming the screen, turning off features like wifi and bluetooth, and changing your power settings can help it to last longer.

Old Battery

Old batteries get tired and charge less and less overtime. If your battery’s charge doesn’t last anymore, you may want to consider replacing it.

Keyboard Not Working

Keys do not respond when pressed

Debris Under Keys

If you are noticing your keys on your laptop are sticking are not typing correctly, you may want to check if the debris are in need for a cleaning. First, you want to shut off your laptop and Lightly turn your laptop over while leaving it open and softly using up and down motions to hear for any discontented debris that may have come loose under the keyboard itself. If you are not hearing any loose debris, try cleaning your keyboard with a slightly damp hand towel and lightly wash over the top of your keyboard to clean any possible trapped dust that could be causing some typing difficulties.

Keyboard Failing to Communicate With Laptop

If your keyboard is having trouble communicating with the laptop itself, try shutting off your laptop and turning it back on. If the characters do not show up after doing this step, you may want to replace the software.

Bad Keyboard

If the keyboard is still having trouble after doing this, you maybe want to replace it.

Not Enough Storage Space

Can’t download files or programs because storage is full.

Cluttered Hard Drive

If you don’t have enough space on your hard drive, you can run a disk cleanup and delete old files you no longer use to free up space.

Hard Drive Too Small

If you still don’t have enough room because your hard drive is too small, you can replace your old hard drive with a larger new hard drive.
