Buy Now! How Much Is Too Much?

The Shopping Conspiracy, Featuring iFixit

As a global society, we have a stuff problem. We make too much stuff. We use too much stuff. We throw too much stuff away. At iFixit, we want to disrupt that steady march to the landfill—and so we’re fighting for a more fixable world.

That’s why we’re proud to be featured in Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, now streaming on Netflix, alongside other people working to solve our waste problem. What if we bought less? What if we fixed the stuff we already have instead of throwing it away? What if our stuff came with the tools and information we need to fix it?

The documentary crew joined us for a repair café at iFixit HQ

That Saturday, we worked together to fix iPads, radios, pants, and more.

Altogether, we fixed 139 things that day—a 91% success rate!

Shout out to our awesome co-host, 5 Cities Repair Café!

Right to Repair = Less Waste

The Right to Repair is the idea that you should be able to fix everything you own. You should be able to fix it yourself, if you want, and get the parts and tools you need. You should be able to take it to a repair shop of your choice and trust that they can compete fairly with the manufacturer’s own shops. We’ve been fighting for your right to fix your stuff—and we’re winning, around the world.

Repair > Recycle

Repair is better than recycling. Of the 13.8 billion kg of e-waste collected in 2022, recyclers threw more than half of it away.

We Help Companies Work Toward a More Fixable Future

We’ve been calling for more repairable stuff for over 20 years. Increasingly, other companies are taking up the call. We help manufacturers get parts and tools to their customers, create easy step-by-step repair guides for their products, and work to make their designs more repairable.
