How can I replace the battery?

The battery is dead.. Anybody know how to replace and where to buy the new battery? I live in Sydney Australia

Alex, since you did not identify your iPod, I assume that it is a 4th gen. based on "old 40GB" It is actually straight forward to replace the battery on that model. Here is the guide for it, and the battery is available at many places. Hope this is the right model:-)
