restoring iPod after its been disabled

i am trying to restore my daughters ipod after she disabled it by forgetting her passcode. i have done the plugging it in and holding the home and power button. it has been downloading software update to it since this time yesterday. is there anything else i can do to speed this up

Software update via iTunes?

I take it it's just the iOS that's downloading

If so quit iTunes and start again
