check engine light is on most of the time
the first time it went on i brought it to toyota and they said it had something to do with the gas tank cap: $98, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th times, it started when i added gas, but it went out after 2 or 3 gas refills. now it's been on for a few months. so what's up?
Is this a good question?

Have you gotten it rescanned? What error code did you get?

The reference to the problem occurring shortly after refueling strongly indicates a problem with the gas cap. Make sure that the gas cap is clean, that filler has no debris, and that the O-ring is in good shape. When you refuel,, make sure to always turn cap until it clicks a couple of times (depends on the cap). If cap is not secured properly, you will get a check engine light every time. There are other possibilities, but this is the one that plagued my wife's car until I replaced the gas cap and reminded her to always fully install the cap. A new cap should be less than $20 if needed, so it's a painless fix and the most common cause. I get the same outcome when I am careless when refueling my Camry.
