wont turn on and blinks 5 times

Hi, I have a Sonia Bravia TV- I think the model is KDL40EX400 aand we have the same problem - wont turn on and blinks 5 times - it only happens in the colder months on the year. For the last 6 years when the temperature is around 15degrees or lower it won't turn on. We tried using a hairdryer to warm it and it worked. Just recently it seems to be taking longer and longer to be able to turn it on using the heat method and the other night it turned itself off and we haven't been able to start it since. Any ideas???

THANK YOU! We used the hair dryer & it works! We are living in Singapore, tropical climate with high humidity & average daily temp of about 35°C. Our Sony KDL-43W800C has been down with 5 blinking red lights for 3 days. Tried many other ways but couldn't work till I read your post.

Paul walker start off by checking a few things. Remember that the 5 blink error code can have quite a few different causes. Ranging from the T-con board to the panel and few things in between. If you have the original TV remote than try to see if this will work on your set:

1. In standby mode, press the following buttons on the Sony remote:

DISPLAY....5....VOL(-)....TV POWER

2. On the left side are the blink codes. On the right hand side is the error count.

3. Under 005, you'll see three listings... TCON, HFR, and P-ID (panel).

4. Let us know what errors your set shows.

If that does not work on your set, then you will have to remove the back of your TV and check the boards. Try to rule out/in the T-con board as faulty. Disconnect the LVDS cable to the T-CON board, the cable between the Main board and the T-CON board, and see if the error code will change.

Update (07/05/2018)

Essentially they all have the same boards but I prefer to always check the specific layout for each TV. I attached a picture of the boards for the EX400 TV and that should be what your TV looks like. G2 is the power supply board A board is the main board.

Hey Oldturkey03,

Saw your answer above and tried it but couldn't see anything on the right or left sides. Haven't taken the back off yet. How will I know what a T-Con board looks like. Any websites I can visit for a quick lesson in recognising TV parts?

Hi,

Try a power reset.

Switch off the TV and the wall outlet, then remove the power cord from the outlet.

Press and hold the TV power button for 30 seconds then release.

Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and switch on.

Switch on the TV.
