Is it possible to repair my phone?

so it goes way back 3 months ago , i woke up one day to see my phone covered in sweetened tea , i immediately clicked on the power button to see if it was working , fortunately it turned on and i thought that since it’s working , then there shouldn’t be any internal damage to the phone components ,so i quickly dry it with a sheet and plug it to the charger next to me , after like 5 mins it went into a boot loop and wouldn’t stop , so i took it off the charger then put it in a bag of uncooked rice for 3 days .

when i took it out it wouldn’t turn on , so i put it aside for 3 months since i couldn’t go out because of of quarantine .

so what internal components could be damaged and could it be repaired ??

Hi,

You will have to open the phone and check what damage has occurred and then after it has been properly cleaned check to see what happens when you turn it on to know what works and what doesn’t.

Water and electronics and electricity are not a good mix.

The impurities in the water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which are not in the phone’s operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion process starts immediately and is ongoing until it has been properly cleaned away.

Rice does not fix the problems caused by corrosion Rice is for dinner, not repair

Bit late now but do not try to charge or to turn on your phone and then remove the battery as soon as possible to prevent any further damage.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available from electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is <70% IPA, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it, check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA, the better.

Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the boards. You will have to remove the metal shields that are covering any of the components as the water may have got in under them and there is ongoing corrosion there as well. Also disconnect and clean any flex cable ends and their associated connectors on the systemboard.

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

Here is a teardown video of the phone which may be of some help.

If this process seems too daunting, take your phone to a reputable, professional mobile repair service, experienced in water damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.
