Cannot Download the Additional Components Needed

Hi there, so I’ll start off by saying this all started one day when my MacBook just stopped working and was flashing between the prohibitory symbol and a folder with a question mark on it. I found an old Mountain Lion disk that I believe came with it or an old iMac I had and tried to use that to re-download the operating system as nothing else would work(not even internet recovery) without the disk in and I am now getting an error saying that it “Cannot Download the Additional Components Needed.” I have already tried going into the terminal and changing the time and date. Any help is appreciated, thank you!!
